Looking within, artists Brian Charles Johnson and Patrick Lee explore the tension between introspection and uncertainty through paintings that capture the fear of the unknown. Shadowy figures, dark facades, and lone streetlamps evoke a sense of suspense and fear, something we all experience when we step beyond the familiar.
Confronting the future, be it day-to-day or life-changing decisions, is a daunting task that challenges our willpower, resilience, and sense of self. Yet, through the therapeutic process of art-making, Johnson and Lee embrace these feelings of uncertainty with grit. Feelings of anxiety are transformed into strength. Doubt is overpowered by dreams.
In these artworks, the past, present, and future overlap and intermingle, whispering “do you remember?” and “what if?” These eerie questions nod towards self-reflection, growth, and acceptance of what is to come.
Self-reflection and peering into the future work in tandem, as our past dictates our tomorrow. This exhibition invites viewers to contemplate their trajectory and embrace the cosmic plan; embrace the unknown
